Building on the success of its Phaser 8560mfp and 8860mfp, Xerox has upped the stakes with the ColorQube 8700 and 8900 which can print at speeds of up to 44 pages per minute. The ColorQube 8700's lower purchase price will be more attractive to businesses and workgroups printing smaller volumes, whilst the 8900's lower cost per page, higher AMVP (Average Monthly Print Volume) and flexible contract pricing will appeal to users needing to print high volumes and closely manage ongoing costs.
Other than pricing structure and monthly print volumes, the ColorQube 8700 and ColorQube 8900 are essentially the same machine and offer the same level of performance. The standard models include a copier, scanner, duplex, 1GB memory and Adobe PostScript 3 with the option to add a fax module and increase the paper input capacity from 625 to 3,475 A4 sheets. Also featured as standard on the base models are Gigabit networking and a 20 sheet convenience stapler, with an optional 650 sheet stapler/ finisher also available.
A 7in colour touch screen with intuitive menus and embedded help videos help to make the user experience as easy and trouble free as possible whilst the array of on-board software, such as Colour By Words and Automatic Colour Correction, allow the user to quickly and easily edit documents for the best results every time. Security is always a prime consideration for any network printer, especially in a busy workgroup with multiple users, so the 8700 and 8900 use a variety of industry standard protocols, including FIPS 140-2 256-bit encryption, to safeguard your data.
One of the many advantages of a solid ink printer over a colour laser printer is the environmental impact; solid ink creates up to 90% less waste than toner cartridges and the printer uses up to 17% less energy over its lifespan than a comparable laser printer. In addition, the EarthSmart print driver settings allow you to choose the most eco-friendly settings so you can reduce your carbon emissions and printing costs at the same time.
If you're looking for a serious alternative to a colour laser multifunction printer, or replacing your existing solid ink printer, the ColorQube 8700 and 8900 should be right at the top of your shopping list. Both machines will serve you well but, if you’re printing more than 3,000 A4 sheets per month, the ColorQube 8900 boasts exceptionally low costs per page and unmatched total cost of ownership.
