Samsung has announced the latest edition to its range of colour laser printers, the CLP-770ND, which is aimed at medium to large workgroups. Slotting in neatly at the top of the CLP range, the 770ND will print up to 33 pages per minute with a monthly duty cycle of up to 120,000 pages. The 7000-page toner yield, optional 1600 sheet paper capacity and optional 80GB hard drive mean that the CLP-770ND should be able to cope in even the busiest office environments.
Samsung is claiming that the CLP-770ND has one of the lowest Total Costs of Ownership (TCO) in its class. We don't have the TCO figures available but, based on Samsung's own Suggested Selling Price (SSP) for the consumables, the running costs come in at a very mediocre 2.33p per page at 5% coverage and 8.24p per page at 20%. These costs will vary depending on how much you pay for your toners and may well come down once the printer is on the market.
Duplex printing is standard on CLP-770ND, as is 256MB memory and a 720Mhz processor. Also featured are User Authentication, which uses Samsung’s secure encryption solution, and Confidential Information Protection which allows multiple layers of password protection. Both systems increase the level of security for sensitive jobs and guard against the circulation of confidential materials.
The CLP-770ND is expected to be available later in June, although the exact release date and price are yet to be confirmed.
