HP has launched an All-in-One printer that can act as a WiFi hotspot, allowing up to eight users to connect using a range of mobile devices. The HP Hotspot LaserJet Pro M1218nfs MFP combines printer, copier, scanner and fax with wireless capabilities that include Apple AirPrint, HP ePrint and HP wireless direct. The M1218nfs has just been released in India, where it is being aimed at home and small business users.
Wireless printing is fast becoming the norm for inexpensive multifunction devices but what's the advantage of a printer that doubles as a Wi-Fi hotspot? Well, if you've ever struggled to get a decent Wi-Fi connection, you'll probably agree that you can't have too many hotspots. The extra wireless coverage provided by the additional hotspot gives you just that bit more freedom and the confidence to roam around the house or office knowing that you can still access the printer.
"We are confident that users will deeply appreciate the ability to print, scan, copy, fax and access internet wirelessly, all through a single device that is incredibly easy to set up and use,” said HP India's director of printing Nitin Hiranandani.
Print speed is a relatively modest 18 pages per minute for the M1218nfs, which includes a 150-sheet paper tray and 35-sheet automatic document feeder. At just over 8kg, the Hotspot LaserJet Pro is a compact mono laser MFP, whose 8,000 page duty cycle and host-based printer language confirm its status as a home/ small office machine. HP Smart Install is included for quick and easy setup, with the option to connect via USB or Ethernet, as well as Wi-Fi.
The Hotspot LaserJet Pro M1218nfs is on sale in India for around £210 with no word yet on when in it will be launched elsewhere. Keep an eye out, though, as it undoubtedly won't be too long before the Hotspot LaserJet Pro is available to U.K. customers.
