Kyocera has launched its first A4 colour MFP, the FS C1020MFP, which is available now. The FS C1020MFP is a 20 page per minute machine with Super G3 fax, duplex and scan to PC as standard. As you'd expect from Kyocera, the FS C1020 represents excellent value with a comprehensive range of features for just under £400.
The FS C1020 costs slightly more than the excellent Konica Minolta 1690MF-D but is four times faster printing in colour than the Konica. Kyocera's biggest selling point is always the running costs of its printers; we don't have the figures for this yet but, if they’re in keeping with the C5000 series, we'd expect a cost of less than 2p per page for 5% coverage. Even Kyocera will struggle to match the 1.38p per page for the Ricoh SP C231/ 232.
First page out time is as low as 14 seconds, while scan speeds are 10 seconds or less in colour and 5 seconds or less in mono. The FS C1020 features secure printing so users can specify a password before a print job is released. With a duty maximum duty cycle of 10,000 per month (1500 average) and its relatively small size, the FS C1020MFP should be an ideal desktop printer for individuals and small workgroups.
We'd expect the FS C1020MFP to be a capable and reliable machine; whether it will have the edge over its rivals will depend to a large extent on those all-important running costs.
