After months of speculation and uncertainty following the collapse of Tallygenicom, Tally customers can breathe a little easier. DASCOM GB Ltd has acquired the rights to sell and support Tally's range of printers in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. This means that Tally customers will have access to sales, service and marketing support across a range of printers plus accessories, parts and consumables.
DASCOM is a leading manufacturer of matrix and thermal printers, established in Hong Kong in 1988. It is the largest serial printer manufacturer in China and its acquisition of Tallygenicom is integral to DASCOM's plan to expand its operations into Europe. DASCOM has also brought on board a number of key Tally management to ensure that it retains the expertise that goes with the brand. Ho Chi Cheung, Chairman of DASCOM Group said,
We are delighted to acquire the rights to such a reputable brand as the Tally serial printer range, and are very impressed by the strong customer relations that have been brought to DASCOM via the acquisition of TallyGenicom's key management team.
So, what does this mean for consumers? Perhaps most importantly, particularly in the short term, customers who have already purchased a Tally machine won't have to worry about whether they'll be able to buy supplies for it or get it repaired in the event of a breakdown. Longer term, DASCOM's plans for expansion into Europe mean that it will continue to develop the Tally brand and product range. Although not necessarily on a par with the likes of Xerox and HP in terms of size, Tallygenicom catered for specific segments of the market and provided solutions which many of its customers would have struggled to find elsewhere.
Christoph Geiger, newly appointed Managing Director of DASCOM Europe GmbH gave a clear indication of DASCOM's ambition,
We welcomed the fact that such an experienced industrial buyer as DASCOM has recognised the value of the company's key assets, its experienced personnel and excellent customer base, and look forward to working with our new colleagues on a long-term plan to become a major supplier of solutions for business printing. The ability to support and customise printer products in key vertical markets such as logistics & supply chain, retail, manufacturing, government and finance will be the key for the success of DASCOM Europe.
Printware is already working with DASCOM to supply Tally branded products to end users – please give us a call if you have any questions about Tally dot matrix and laser products.
