Kodak has announced that it will stop selling consumer inkjet printers in 2013 as it seeks to emerge from bankruptcy next year. Epson has thrown out the rule book by launching the first mono inkjet printers for the office. HP has reported a record loss of $8.9 billion for the quarter ending July 31st. The loss is easily the biggest in HP's history and largely due to an $8bn write-down related to its acquisition of IT services company EDS. Behrokh Khoshnevis from the University of Southern California has developed an idea for a 3D printer which, he says, can build a house in less than 24 hours. If it works, it could have a massive impact for the homeless and those living in inadequate housing around the world. Scientists in Singapore have developed a process for printing colour images at the highest possible resolution, around 100,000 dots per inch, using microscopic discs of silver and gold.
