This is an expensive printer, bought because the inks are priced so that for a given coverage colour costs the same as monochrome. It's used at home for two societies, including publicity material and concert programmes, plus snall-run CD booklets. The colour quality is fine for all of this, though not a substitute for a good inkjet when it really matters. I'd suggest getting a printout of your own material before purchase, as the the manufacturer's samples were not helpful.
After 50000 sides at what we guess to average 10% coverage, it's costing us less than 3p a sheet for ink, maintenance kits and standby electricity (you leave the printer on all the time, which rather detracts from Xerox's environmental claims).
It prints on normal paper without compromising quality.
It does take a while to wake up from standby, but so does our inkjet from switch-on.
Ink changing is just as mess-free and simple as Xerox claim.
One breakdown, which disappointed us: after 49000 sides, the little plastic projection for one of the side springs for Tray 1 broke off. We've glued it back rather than pay the enormous service charge.
Overall, we're very happy with the machine, as long as it lasts long enough for the cheap and flexible colour printing to compensate for the purchase cost.
