We bought the printer to replace an HP of similar specification but five years old and with an intermittant copying fault (probably caused by reconditioned toners). The HP was far more easy to use remotely (from the desktop) but the new Canon printer/fax/scanner/copier does all we want and its quieter, smaller and neater.

This is the second Canon All in one unit I have bought - the last one packed up after only 4 years of light use. Like its predecessor, I share the fax line with a phone and every time I dial out the machine has a freak out - very irritating & noisy. Print quality is acceptable, print speed is improved, is smaller and lighter in weight. Wasn't too difficult to set up, however annoying when scanning docs to PC you have to walk over to machine and press a button. Doesn't like self seal envelopes either, envelopes come out already stuck down and you have to peel the flaps up in order to seal - then i have to put sellotape on rear of flap because all the gum has been used up ( annoying as i just bought a 1000 envelopes). Copy is quick. Haven't tried fax yet. Not as good as my last All in One but was considerable cheaper than predecessor. Lets hope this one lasts more than 4 years - i only print about 50 pages of A4 a week. However, the main shock is the cost of replacement print carts.
