A LED is a type of semiconductor component that gives off light when activated. If you are unsure how
this is applied to printers you are not alone, as many manufacturers have completely ignored the technology
when developing their print mechanisms.
OKI, on the other hand have taken advantage of LED's features to offer significant benefits over laser printers.
There are actually many similarities between the two. Both use drums to transfer toner onto each page, and each uses light to build the image on the drums.
Where OKI LED printers differ is that rather than use a laser to build the image on each drum, they use a printhead made up of rows of LEDs to do so.
LEDs are a far more efficient way of using space as they do not require mirrors to direct the narrow beam of light.
As a result LED printers are far more space efficient than laser equivalents.
